While a senior resident she completed specialized training in stereotactic radiosurgery on the University of Maryland Gamma Knife, one of the early Gamma Knife Centers in the U.S. After completing residency she practiced in North Carolina and was Associate Clinical Professor of Neurosurgery at East Carolina University Brody School of Medicine. After petitioning the state of North Carolina for a Certificate of Need for a Gamma Knife in Eastern North Carolina, she led the installation of the new center and continued as medical director. She has multiple peer-reviewed publications on the topics of stereotactic radiosurgery and brain tumor research.

Dr. Lazio joined Providence Neurosurgery in Olympia, Washington, in 2010, specializing in general neurosurgery with a special interest in brain tumors, pituitary tumors and trigeminal neuralgia. She has traveled to South America with a neurosurgery mission group to provide international education on pituitary surgery and stereotactic radiosurgery to neurosurgeons providing care in regions of great need. Her passion is improving the lives of cancer patients and she participates in several fundraising organizations for this purpose.

Away from work, Dr. Lazio enjoys cycling and hiking with her husband, walking her dogs, and watching her daughters play soccer.
