About

Monica Verduzco-Gutierrez, M.D., an associate professor of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the McGovern Medical School at Houston, completed her residency at the Baylor/McGovernMed Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation Alliance in July 2009. She received her medical degree in 2005 at Baylor College of Medicine and completed her internship at Baylor’s affiliated hospitals the following year. She is also sub-specialty board certified in Brain Injury Medicine and is the Brain Injury Medicine Fellowship Program Director for her department.

Dr. Verduzco-Gutierrez cares for outpatients and inpatients recovering from traumatic brain injury, stroke and neurotrauma.  She is a specialist in management of patients with spasticity  and is able to assess, diagnose and treat interventionally if necessary.  She also does neurotrauma consults at a level one trauma center.  Her hospital affiliations include TIRR/Memorial Hermann and Memorial Hermann Hospital-Texas Medical Center. She is a member of the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and the Association of Academic Physiatrists.

Furthermore, she is Co-Medical Director of the TIRR Memeorial Hermann Outpatient Medical Clinic and the Medical Director of the Brain Injury & Stroke Program at TIRR Memorial Hermann. She also works and teaches PM&R resident physicians and medical students, and has won teaching awards and awards for clinical excellence.  Dr. Gutierrez is also involved as a leader in hospital and medical school committees.  Outside of work, she is a devoted mother and wife, and enjoys exercise and distance running.  She is also involved in volunteering with the poor through her church and volunteering for a free rehabilitation clinic.
